Dr. Ivonne Liebenberg, Associate Director

Dr. Ivonne Liebenberg is passionate about teaching and loves to see how her students can apply what they learn in class not only in their jobs but also in their personal finances and lives. She is originally from Santiago, Chile. She received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master’s degree in Finance from the University of Chile. She taught several finance classes at the University of Chile and, in 2001, she moved to the U.S. to pursue a Ph.D. in Finance at the University of Georgia. She also taught finance classes at UGA. After graduating in 2006, she and her husband (Dr. Andre Liebenberg) moved to Oxford, MS to teach at the University of Mississippi. She teaches classes in risk management and insurance, business finance, and fundamentals of Excel.

Her areas of research include insurance company operations, market pricing of political and regulatory risk, cross-border mergers and acquisitions, dividends, and co-movement of stock prices. Her research has been published in the Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Corporate Finance, Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting, Risk Management and Insurance Review, Journal of Insurance Issues, and Journal of Insurance Regulation, among others. She is a recipient of the School of Business Outstanding Publication award.

Dr. Liebenberg has four sweet children and a puppy named Coco. Her hobbies include arts & crafts and playing tennis. In her role as a Noonday ambassador, she advocates for artisans in impoverished communities around the word, to provide them with sustainable and dignified employment opportunities and access to early and higher education. She strongly believes that access to education and fair wage employment is the key to eradicating poverty in the world and loves helping others to have access to those opportunities.
