Dr. Andre Liebenberg, Director

Dr. Andre Liebenberg believes in the transformative power of education. He started teaching insurance classes as a 21-year old graduate student in South Africa where he was able to witness how a college degree in risk and insurance, and the subsequent career opportunities, completely changed the trajectory of the lives of many of his students and their families. He subsequently came to the United States to earn a PhD in Risk Management and Insurance and pursue an academic career. He is currently the holder of the Robertson Chair of Insurance at the University of Mississippi and serves as a Professor of Finance. He joined the faculty in 2006 and has led the Risk Management and Insurance program since 2011.

Dr. Liebenberg teaches the introductory and capstone classes in the undergraduate RMI curriculum, leads the doctoral RMI seminar, and oversees the internship program. He is the recipient of the 2015 American Risk and Insurance Association Excellence in Teaching Award, which recognizes a career of distinguished teaching. His research has been published in leading scholarly journals and has been awarded grants by the U.S. Department of Labor and other organizations. He serves on the board of directors of the American Risk and Insurance Association, is an editorial board member of the Journal of Insurance Regulation, is a past-president of the Southern Risk and Insurance Association, and is an active member of the Risk Theory Society.
